V4 Stories

Graffiti à la nipponese
Graffiti are sprayed works of art. In school playgrounds, on old walls,
railway wagons, hoardings, in backyards of flats, on old cars. Right? Wrong!

The graffiti under discussion here come from the Land of the
Rising Sun, from Honda's homeland and not from a spray can.
They are old -- no, make that historic -- pictures that once upon a time
were used as advertising motifs in the broadest sense. For pamphlets, posters, brochures. Newly
digitised and lovingly assembled to create a memorable
collection.
... more

We came across these "motorcycle graffiti" while visiting
the official website of Honda Japan. Taking a virtual stroll around there is as much
adventure as entertainment because, as a European, you understand absolutely nothing
on account of the Japanese characters.

With some persistence, you can click and fight your way through, discovering
lots of Honda motor bikes that seem familiar and some that
are not offered on our domestic market. (Or cars,
airplanes, robots and gardening equipment....)

Like successful truffle hunters, we stumbled on these delicacies. One hundred
visual documents from the 60s, 70s and 80s that
lift your heart in a special way. Honda Cubs, beautiful old CBs, VFRs, Monkeys,
twin-cylinders, enduros, singles, exotics, motor scooters, race bikes. Magnificent
machines. Stirring motifs, fabulous contemporary history.

Of course, we are on a V4 website here, and far be it for us
to dilute the topic. Still, eight out of the 100 motifs show V4s, the remainder
different engine designs. Still, we think: Revel a
while in Honda's outstanding motor cycle history and take
the opportunity to have a look.

Or better still, to download them legally, with the choice of four different
resolutions. For the Desktopon your personal computer. We are not able to say
how long these "motorcycle graffiti" will stay online.
So take the opportunity now while it lasts.

A selection of the images is included at the top of the page. Let yourself get carried away – you can find the entire collection from Japan at the following link:
