First information about new transmission for the V4-Honda - with video
Shift box innovation

Honda has developed a dual clutch transmission for large-displacement motorcycles that enables remarkably quick shifts without interrupting power flow. The gears can be selected manually or automatically. The new Honda VFR, whose introduction is still planned for this year, will be the first model available with the optional high-tech shift box.

The "Dual Clutch Transmission" combines sporty driving pleasure with easy operation. The dual clutch transmission offers the user the chance to manually select gears via buttons on the left handlebar control panel. Upshifts can be made under load using the index finger - as with an automatic gearbox - downshifts are made using the thumb. In fully automatic mode, the gears are shifted automatically, matching rpm and speed. You can pre-select the mode - normal, fuel-efficient mode (D) or sporty setting (S).

The clutch lever is eliminated when equipped with this transmission version. Traditional clutch or shift operations are a thing of the past. Regardless of which mode is being used, the shifts are always short and with no bothersome gear hammer.

Thanks to efficient power delivery, fuel consumption is the same as with a conventional manual gearbox- or even better. The dual clutch transmission is characterised by a light-weight and compact design. Honda is planning to gradually offer additional large-displacement models with the innovative shift box.

Thanks to use of the most up-to-date electronics, the new technology enables perfect and very gentle gear changes. The pauses between shifts and the accompanying interruptions in power are extremely short, which guarantees efficient acceleration and even more driving pleasure.

In addition, you can catch a glimpse of additional details of the new VFR, especially the cockpit and rear area. There is also a first impression of the sound of the large-capacity V4 engine.   close
